Porsche showcased their electric 718 Cayman GT4 e-Performance at the Race of Champions in Piteå, Sweden. Certainly, this car is no ordinary car as it features 1,088 horsepower, which can accelerate to 200 km/h in 5.6 seconds. This groundbreaking car paves the way for the upcoming electrified Cayman and 718 Boxster and future electric race cars.

Porsche’s 718 Cayman GT4 e-Performance Paves the Way for Electric Car Racing

The Porsche 718 GT4 e-Performance may look familiar. This is because the car was developed based on the chassis of the existing 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. As a result, the development of this car allows the company to change one parameter at a time to its effect on the rest of the vehicle. First, the car features a unique radiator system that provides oil cooling for electric motors and the batteries.

The car features an 82 kWh battery split into three sections – one mounted in the front, one behind the driver, and one at the foot of the passenger seat. The same battery is used in the Taycan. Furthermore, Porsche claims that it takes only 15 minutes to charge the battery from 5-80% at a rate of 350kW. During races, the GT4 e-Performance can regenerate up to 800kW when braking and gets back up to 50 per cent of the range over a 30-minute stint. Therefore, this electric car can compete against traditional race cars.

“For each race minute, we will get 1 kilowatt-hour back from each axle.”
—Björn Förster, Porsche

The purpose of the purely electric GT4 e-performance is to show that electric cars can take on motorsport racing. According to Förster, the electric GT4 e-performance topped the expectations for an electrical vehicle and showed the world that electric vehicles can provide the same feeling and personality that originally captivated us about cars.

“We need customers in the cars. Trying to explain to someone that this is the future is worthless, it is much better if they get to experience it themselves.”

Björn Förster, Porsche

Nimbnet is Excited for the Widespread Adoption of Electric Cars

As the motorsports industry introduces electric race cars, the general population will follow suit. Nimbnet is excited to be the forefront of the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in the country. Recently, Nimbnet announced a partnership with Virta and Kempower to build a new charging network in Sweden. In fact, our first charging stations will be in Nordmaling, Sundsvall, and Gothenburg. Our new charging network in Sweden is a positive step towards towards the growing number of electric vehicles on the road.

Although this partnership focuses on the transition of heavy trucks to electric power, Nimbnet strives to serve all of our population. Our efforts represent a promising development for the future of all electric cars, including sports cars like the Porsche 718 GT4 e-Performance. Indeed, with the ability to provide 360kW of power, the Virta chargers will allow for quick charging of the fastest and most advanced electric cars on the market. Porsche customers who own the 718 GT4 e-Performance or other electric models can now enjoy a convenient and reliable option for quick charging, allowing them to take long road trips without worrying about running out of battery.
